Because this celebrates my three years in PDX, let me know your favorite thing about our fair Rose City. Please leave your comment by Monday, September 13, 2010 by 5 p.m. PST. The winner will be announced Wednesday, September 15th. To appropriately celebrate my time in Stumptown, this one is for the locals. With that said, if you live outside of the area, you can always give away your session as a gift to a Portlander. I get by with a little help from my friends, so please feel free to spread the word. I wouldn't be here without your support and I thank you for that!

It's a tie between the rain and the trees.
I love the amazing views of mountains covered in trees and rivers running up to a metro skyline. You have to admit there is something to be said for having it all in one place! And within a short amount of time you can be in a wheat field or on the beach or in the Mt Hood snow! It really is just a grownup's (and artist's) playground! :)
Every time I return home and we come into downtown or over the I-5 bridge - and I see the river and the bridges and the hills laid out before me and I know I'm home.
Also, and this is a big also, eating jammers from Grand Central Bakery on benches in Ladd's Edition:).

coffee! is that too obvious? probably. french pressed coffee -- and hot lips pizza. portland wouldnt be the same without it!
The hipsters, they provide a certain je ne sais quoi. Well they certainly provide a Portland style, good and bad.
Though I am very new to Portland, I am already in love with how bike-friendly the city is and the amazing food available from everything from a cart to a brew pub to an elegant restaurant.

I love Portland because it offers the charm of a small town with the amenities of a big city- the perfect combination!

Portland has multiple personalities and always something for the mood I'm in - from funky SE favorites (Jam, Sapphire Hotel, Albina Press), NE Alberta and everything about it (Last Thursday, and Tin Shed need mention), to the staples that make this place home, like Stumptown coffee & Saturday market. If you haven't found a neighborhood you love then you haven't seen enough of Portland.

The way the sun sets behind the Fremont bridge when I am running from the Broadway bridge towards the Pearl along the waterfront. It gives me pause every time!
amazing. i'm a single mother who would LOVE some photos with my child from a very talented photographer.
After 7 years here, I am morphing into a local. The one thing that stands out most to me is food. Not only the number of great places to eat - but the great ingredients at stores and markets.
After spending a few days in a small city trying to shop for dinner - this point became very clear that I would struggle anywhere else.
I love how Portland celebrates the summer after a long gray winter.

I love all the green! I've been to a lot of dry places and I always miss all the grass and trees.
the bridges! i also love riding my bicycle around to all the pocket neighborhoods.
My favorite thing about Portland is seeing it anew through my 3 year old son's eyes. oh, and COFFEE!
My favorite thing about Portland is my niece and nephew. My brother is a newly single dad, and I'd love to be able to do a photo shoot with him and the kids. They are the best.
The tree lined streets! I love driving north on 39th street toward Burnside right before you hit the traffic circle. The way the light travels through the trees and colors the pretty houses in the afternoon always makes me so happy.
Similar to Megan, my favorite thing about Portland is my little sister, who is not so little and is a college graduate and all that hoopla. She's a bright shining star with orangey red hair that looks so good in the cool Portland light. Although we grew up in Memphis, she's adopted Portland as her home and is convincing me to do so as well. Here's hoping!

the proximity to all great things: the Coast {my love}, the mountains, the old growth forests, the rivers and the hiking!
i love portland b/c we made it our home -- our friends and family came soon thereafter. it is heaven in this way -- also, the food is superb!

I've actually never been, but I'm heading there next summer. Pretty sure I'll fall in love.
The things I love most about Portland are the trees especially down 23rd St. and a long day at Powells buried in books. :) Maybe a trip to Moonstruck chocolates afterwards. :)

I lived in Portland during and after college (for a couple years). I loved driving on the highway that circles around downtown, at night, when all the lights glitter off the river. I also love: cheese fries at Dot's! Cucumber margaritas at Madame Butterfly. Mumu's on 21st. And so many other restaurants I can't remember the names of! Darn it. Portland rocks and will always hold a special place in my heart. If my comment is chosen I'll give the session to my friend who has four (!) little kids, I think it would be a fun memento for them.
My little brother has made Portland his home and just got engaged! I'd love to gift a photo session to he and his fiance. My favorite thing about Portland? That it puts you so darn close to all of the natural beauty that is Oregon.
I love the diversity of retaurants and great shopping. But the proximity to the mountains and the ocean as well as having the extraordinary wine country so close by makes this a place set apart from all others.

I can't believe it's already been 3 years in PDX! I hope to have the honor of a photo shoot with you some day my dear. Maybe when we go camping....Keep up the amazing work and creativity. I love it all!
Hmmm... as a newbie to the area I would have to say all of the bridges are amazing. Oh - and the Sunday Market is simply a treasure in itself!
Coming from Phoenix, I can't tell you how much I *love* the rain. And the Fall colors. And downtown during Christmas- at night. And sweater weather!
Oh the food, the casual-but-fun style and atmosphere, the small-city feel, the community. I've been lucky to have grown up here have never wanted to leave, so obviously Portland is doing something right.
And i have a family w/three beautiful girls. We would LOVE some photos!
The abundance (and total embrace) of creative, small businesses. From artisan food carts, to independent designers. From amazing photographers, to hand letter-press artists. Portland is never going to be a boxed, one size fits all experience. It will always be something totally unique and continually evolving.
My amazing friends: when they're on bikes, when they're dancing, when we're sitting by a fire, when we're wandering around creating photoshoots in our heads.

The seasons! The rain that makes everything so green. The livablity of the city and all amazing places to eat.
I will be visiting Portland for the first time this fall when my husband does an "audition rotation" for residency there...we're hoping to live in Portland for residency! I can't wait to go, I've heard so many fabulous things!
My favorite thing to do in Portland is ride my bike to the waterfront and sit under the cherry blossom trees with a blanket, a six-pack of PBR and a box of cheez-its.
There is nothing to love about Portland, except my son and his wife! Who could ever live there? In July of 2009 it was 107! Come on!
Now, the east coast is the place to live! Oh, the beauty that is here on the east coast! We have the Atlantic Ocean, we have mountains and lakes and trees and flowers. We even have hummingbirds that come right up to our windows! It's a fabulous place to raise children! They grow up to be so tall and handsome; it's not like that all the way out in Portland! Don't you just hear the east coast calling?
I love taking my kids downtown and visiting the parks, we also go on hikes a lot. Everything is so close and so easy to be active outdoors. I'm all about the family activities and Portland has that!

There are so many things I love about Portland, especially the summers here, but today I realized what I truly love about it. The never ending surprises it brings. Not only with the unpredictable weather, from rain to 100 degree days, but in the landscape, people, and things to do. Where else can liberals, red necks, and hippies all live together? I love that you can ride your bike along the river, or go hiking in the gorge. Last Thursdays in the NE, and Saturday market downtown, the Japanese Gardens, and music festivals, it's a variable cornucopia of excitement!
I love Portland for its life-is-more-than-money spirit and for all the people out here doing what they love without excuses. Also for the happy hours. Best. Thing. Ever.
Oh, how to choose? I love that before I moved here, and I met fanatical Portlanders, I thought "what is with those people? It can't be that great" and now, I live here, and when I travel I am one of those fanatical Portlanders. But if I have to pick one thing, it is the food and drink culture- local ingredients, food and drink as celebration, not stuffiness, and the fact that you can eat out in a party dress or sweats and no one cares.
I love that not only does Portland have everything you could want in a city (convenience, friendly people), but we are also a short drive from the ocean, the river, the mountains, and wine country.
