jill + leigh: hitched!

Congratulations to Jill + Leigh on getting hitched! I was very happy when friend and colleague, Lisa Teso, invited me to come along as a 2nd shooter for this wonderful celebration. A heartfelt ceremony, bringing the room to happy tears, was followed by some killer dance moves. This crowd was good. It is hard for me to explain the amazing feeling of being able to document such an intimate and special event. It was an honor to be there. Similar to the movement of dance, the experience is difficult to describe, but the feeling is quite exhilarating.
Jill + Leigh, thanks for letting us be part of your day. You have a beautiful family and I wish you happy hearts, adventure, love and laughter. I know Simon is going to be a fantastic big brother to your little one on the way. Congratulations!
Please visit www.lisateso.com to view more of Lisa's work.
PS: Lisa, thanks so much for inviting me along!

banter banner.

I am smitten with these banners I saw on A Cup of Jo the other morning. I couldn't resist the temptation to have a couple of these on hand. Wouldn't they be fun for a photo booth, portrait session or a celebration? I can't wait to use them for a photo shoot. Oh, the possibilities!

night photography.

I have been working on some projects involving my night photography. What I love most about photographing during the evening hours is that it forces me to slow down.  It is a quiet, meditative process that brings about solitude and calmness. This type of photography provides a nice balance of my other photographic endeavors, which demand high energy and a fast pace. Both types of work nourish the soul - but in their own unique way.  To view more of the night photos, feel free to visit my site.
Oh and please, take your time.

workshop.

I am excited to announce an upcoming workshop through the Studio School at OCAC on April 16 & 17. We will have an artist talk with Karl Burkheimer about his show at Doppler PDX, continue the day by talking to gallerist Charles A. Hartman of Charles A. Hartman Fine Art, as well as explore other NW galleries, and work from Disjecta's Portland 2010 biennial exhibition with artist talks by Jenene Nagy and Corey Arnold. You can now register online. Please find the class description below:

COMMUNITY CONNECT: A PASSPORT TO PORTLAND'S ART SCENE
Craft is community. Craft is connection. Inspired by these philosophies of OCAC, this workshop links the community of OCAC to the larger community of artists presently working in Portland. Participants have the opportunity to connect with the Portland art community, and ask questions of artists, curators, and gallerists that may normally seem unapproachable or inaccessible. This workshop begins with a Friday evening meeting and orientation for the next day’s excursion.  Saturday begins with an introduction to local artist(s) and continues with a studio visit, artist talk, gallery talk and viewing (artist change monthly – selections TBA). This weekend workshop is a wonderful chance to meet artists, see artwork in an intimate setting and gain new access to and understanding of Portland’s diverse art scene. No prerequisite. Location: TBA
Friday, April 16, 6 - 8 pm
Saturday, April 17, 11 - 4 pm
